Early Years

Welcome to the Early Years section where we implement the best teaching practices available in the UK. We focus on developing skills rather than content. We have a comprehensive set of learning objectives which detail what the pupil should know and what they should be able to do at the end of each year (stage) of the programme. An important feature of our curriculum is its spiral and differentiated way of working, which means that the skills and concepts developed are revisited at different times by the children, in different ways and through different themes, either during the course of the academic year or over the course of their Early Years education.

Preschool is shaped by a combination of the UK National Curriculum, the University of Cambridge International Primary curriculum, the Foundation Stage Guidance curriculum and the requirements of the Ministry of Education in Colombia. These curricula and programmes combine with each other to provide the appropriate structure to produce pupils with the BIS profile.

Our Early Years is made up of 4 levels, each class has a head teacher and an assistant teacher.

One of the aims of the school is to implement the best teaching practices in the UK in the Early Years, therefore, it is organised in the same way as in the UK.

Curricula: Founding Stage and Key Stage

Area of Learning Foundation Stage, in the first 2 levels of Early Years (Nursery and Reception).

At this stage teachers plan by areas of learning, as the development of skills is much more important than subject content knowledge.

Key Stage 1, at Year 1 and Year 2 levels.

Children follow a curriculum based on the UK national curriculum and the Colombian Ministry of National Education guidelines, recognising that they are ready for a structured and somewhat more formed programme of study.

Students follow a timetable which is divided into the following subjects:

English

Maths

Spanish

Sciences

Social Sciences / History

Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

Art

Music
